Big Eight Conference Moves Fall Sports to Spring

The Big Eight Conference which includes schools in Beloit, Sun Prairie and Verona announced Tuesday that it will cancel all conference competitions for all fall sports. With schools in Sun Prairie and Middleton announcing they would start the year with virtual learning the conference which could still offer sports under WIAA rules voted 10-0 to move the season to the spring. There was no word on whether schools will have the option to schedule non conference games for fall sports and fall sports coaches can provide virtual instruction during the established fall sports season to assist athletes with training. The WIAA also announced that on Thursday they will have a virtual business meeting to address the fall sports season and consider the proposal to move all fall sports to the spring. Under the plan fall sports would begin in March and go until late may with spring sports beginning at the end of May. The board has the final authority on how to address fall sports and could approve, reject or modify the spring proposal. The meeting is set for 9am.
