According to a press release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday at about 5:45 p.m. the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center received a report of an automobile crash at the intersection of Stateline Rd. and Capron Rd. located in Boone County, Illinois. Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies advised the crash sequence initiated in the Town of Sharon in Walworth County. Walworth County Sheriff’s Deputies confirmed the crash began in the State of Wisconsin.
The crash involved one automobile and one motorcycle. As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist had life-threatening injuries. Both the motorcyclist and driver of the automobile were transported to hospitals located in Rockford, Illinois.
Preliminary investigation revealed that 21 year old Walworth resident, Makayla R. Romanyk, was westbound on Stateline Rd. approaching Capron Rd. in a 2006, blue Chevy Malibu when she was involved in a collision with an eastbound 2017, silver, Harley Davidson, operated by 67 year old Salem resident Jerome J. Epping. Epping later died of his injuries.
The vehicles approached the proximity of the intersection when a collision occurred. Investigation is pending by the Walworth County Sheriff's Crash Investigation Team. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sharon Fire Department, Sharon Police Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Office, and the Walworth County Medical Examiner.
