Upcoming Work On East Main Street in Watertown

According to an update from the City of Watertown, they will begin phased street improvements on East Main Street using American Rescue Plan Act funds. The project will occur between 1st and Market Streets beginning on September 29.
During phase 1, the city will place temporary no parking signs along the route on both sides of the curbline. The signs will be placed beginning on September 28.
During phase 2, Watertown’s paving contractor will set up a detour of East Main Street between 1st to Market Streets by 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 29. This section of East Main Street and all cross streets with the exceptions of 1st, 3rd, and 4th Streets will be closed to all traffic until on the evening of Saturday, October 1. On Thursday, September 29 and Friday, September 30, the contractor will rotomill 2 ½” of existing asphalt pavement from both the eastbound and westbound travel lanes. On Saturday, October 1, the contractor will place hot mix asphalt on both the travel lanes of East Main Street between 1st to Market Streets. Once work is completed, the detour will be removed the evening of Saturday, October 1.
During phase 3, which begins on October 3, Watertown’s pavement marking contractor will begin striping double yellow centerlines and channelizing turn lane lines on East Main Street. On Tuesday, October 4 and Wednesday, October 5, the contractor will do all the handwork striping, including the striping of the parking lanes and crosswalks. There will be temporary no parking signs placed on the eastbound lanes of East Main Street on October 4 and westbound lanes of East Main Street on October 5. The contractor will finish pavement marking on Thursday, October 6.
