According to an update from the City of Fort Atkinson, the Robert Street Bridge has officially opened. Main Street has returned to one lane of traffic in both directions, and pavement markings and signage on Main Street were restored to return parking to the area last night. There are some barricades and signage left at the end of each block on Main Street along with message boards alerting motorists of the change.
Temporary traffic signals will be in place at the Riverside and Robert Street intersection until the light poles are delivered. There is a manufacturing delay on those items. The signal timing and operation of the intersection will work as usual only with temporary light poles.
The bridge underwent a total deck replacement, including a dedicated left turn lane northbound and signal coordination at Third Street. The project also included the addition of a parapet wall and a wider sidewalk along with a decorative fence/rail. The parapet wall separates pedestrians from traffic for increased safety. Decorative lights and poles are currently back ordered and will be installed when they arrive.
