Thanks to a rate increase, the City of Fort Atkinson is telling its residents that water mains will be replaced. The bills will increase by about $15/month, which will provide about $800,000 for water main replacement. Fort will be only the third utility in the state approved to allow customers to directly pay for water main replacement and avoid borrowing.
According to the press release, the city is currently in the process of preparing to replace 5900 feet of spun cast water main on areas of Peterson, Gail, Adrian, Grove, Spry, Grant, and Maple streets. This is supposed to occur in 2022.
Federal funds will be included with the rate increase to accomplish a larger start than what is the average.
