Janesville Native Becomes 24th Commanding General of U.S. Army

According to a press release from the U.S. Army, Janesville native Gen. Andrew P. Poppas has become the 24th commanding general of the U.S. Army. The command is made up of 745 thousand soldiers and 96 thousand civilians. Poppas commissioned into the United States Army in 1988 and has served in operational deployments including Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Freedom Sentinel, and two tours during Operation Enduring Freedom. He previously served on Fort Bragg with 82nd Airborne Division.
