According to an update from the Janesville Fire Fighters Local 580, on Tuesday they were dispatched to the 400 block of Riverside Dr. for a water rescue. Two individuals capsized their canoe, but were able to swim to a nearby island. Both subjects were wearing life jackets and were safely brought to shore. Once on shore, crews assisted in recovering the canoe.
The department says that the river level is skyrocketing up with the recent rain. As the level goes up, so does the speed of the current. There's also added debris in the water. The department reminds residents to be safe and always wear a life jacket.
