According to a press release from the City of Janesville Fire Department, they responded to a residential fire this morning at about 2 a.m. on S. River Rd. Initial dispatch indicated that the couch inside of the residence was on fire and occupants were evacuating. Engine 812 arrived on scene and reported heavy fire showing from the front of the residence. Engine 812 initiated an aggressive interior attack of the fire and quickly brought the fire under control. Other arriving units assisted with fire suppression, and search of the residence. The 3 adult occupants of the residence were able to escape the fire. 1 of the occupants received burn injuries and was transported to an area hospital by JFD paramedics, a second occupant was also transported for evaluation. The fire was confined to the first floor of the residence with smoke and heat damage throughout the structure. The cause of the fire appears to be unintentional in nature and related to smoking materials being used by one of the occupants. No firefighters were injured in this accident.
