Janesville City Council Discusses Potential Sale of Landfill

At this week’s Janesville City Council meeting, they discussed the potential sale of the landfill. The city of Janesville is one of the few municipalities in the state that owns their own landfill, but over the past few years the city has been contacted by private companies who want to buy the landfill. An evaluation study of the landfill was done, and it was recommended not to sell the landfill. The city currently benefits $2 million per year from the landfill, and if they sell the landfill they will lose control of waste disposal.
