The Domestic violence shelter that had been voted down was finally approved by the Elkhorn city Council. The New Beginnings shelter which will be located on N Church street in the former medical clinic was approved by a vote of 4-2. The community had opposed the shelter and hired lawyers saying the countywide shelter would bring domestic violence perpetrators into the neighborhood. The issue was taken up again by the city council after a Walworth county circuit court judge sent the matter back to the council saying the earlier denial lacked legal basis. A special council meeting was held to have the vote and it will be the first domestic violence shelter in Walworth County.
