Burglary Investigation Led to Shootout and Fire

A burglary investigation in Sumner leads to a shootout and fire according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office. Officers were sent to the area of County Highway A and Highway 106 in Sumner on a report of a possible burglary in progress. When the sheriff's deputy arrived someone shot at them from inside the house, the deputy shot back and took cover. Once clear of gunfire the deputy noticed black smoke coming from the home. Jefferson County sheriff officials said it is still an active crime scene and asked that people avoid the area and would not say if anyone had been arrested in connection to the incident.
