20 Fire Departments Battle Slinger Fire in Town of Polk

The Fort Atkinson Fire Department along with nearly twenty other fire departments assisted with a fire in Slinger, in the town of Polk in Washington County.

Last night (5/21, 7:23PM) smoke and flames could be seen coming from Oak Creek Wood Products along I-41 south of Slinger. Sheriff’s officials noticed dark smoke coming from a piece of equipment and a mulch pile and spreading closer to the rear of the business. At that point multiple departments were being paged. I-41 was shut down for an hour near Hwy-60 while crews were putting out the fire that had spread to the rear of the building. Crews were still expected to be on scene this morning as areas continue to burn and smolder. No injures were reported. The incident and investigation continue and there is no damage estimate at this time.
