According to the Watertown Police Department, on Sunday at about 12:20 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of S. Church St. for the driver of a gray Nissan Altima not having their headlights illuminated. After the officer turned on the red and blue emergency lights of the squad, the driver quickly accelerated south on S. Church St. The officer then activated the siren and pursued the vehicle. During the pursuit the vehicle traveled through a red traffic light and reached speeds over 100 miles per hour. The pursuit was ultimately terminated due to reckless driving. The vehicle was located shortly after in Jefferson County after it struck a curb to one of the roundabouts and was no longer able to be driven. The driver has fled the scene, and a female occupant of the vehicle was located near the scene and was treated for minor injuries. This investigation remains active, and more information will be given if it becomes available.
