Walworth County Sheriff Pursuit Ends in Injury

According to a press release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, yesterday morning at about 1:11 a.m. a deputy attempted to stop a motor vehicle in the City of Lake Geneva that was traveling 62 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. Later, the driver increased the speed to 100 miles per hour while traveling north on Highway 120. A veteran Deputy Blanchard from the Walworth County Sheriff’s office was on Highway 120 monitoring radio transmissions of the pursuit, and went behind a guardrail and was prepared to deploy a tire deflation device to stop the threat presented by the suspect and the vehicle. Before the deputy could deploy the device, the driver lost control of the vehicle and the car struck the guardrail and caused injury to a passenger and to Deputy Blanchard. The passenger, a 31 year old from Racine, was taken to the hospital and was later released. Deputy Blanchard was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The suspect driver, 25 year old Tony Perales from Racine, was also taken to the hospital for treatment and was then taken to the Walworth County Jail and is facing charges of Flee and Eluding, Operating while intoxicated causing great bodily harm, injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, and Operating without a Driver’s License causing great bodily harm.
