Village of East Troy Police Advising Of Scam

The Village of East Troy Police Department is advising the community about a scam. The department said that individuals came to them about a scam that said that a family member was in jail and in need of more than $5000 in cash. The callers will say not to contact anyone and to act quickly. Quick thinking by the resident and a bank teller helped police determine it was a scam and saved that individual's money. Police remind individuals to not share or send money to anyone in cash form or purchase gift cards. The department says the criminals are getting smarter, and to contact the department at 262-642-6250 if you have any concerns. Police say these calls are happening almost weekly.
