Upcoming Hydrant Flushing in Beloit

According to a press release from the City of Beloit, the Public Works’ Water Resources Division will perform its annual fire hydrant flushing program from August 1 through November 30 during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. This flushing program ensures that the fire hydrants are in good working condition in case of emergencies, and helps flush sediment out of the distribution system. Residents may experience discolored water, low water pressure, or a disruption of service during this time period. Residents are urged to reduce water use and consumption during this time period and wait to do laundry until after 3 p.m. when crews are in the area during the flushing program. Crews will be in each area twice; the first time will flush dead ends and the second time will be a maintenance flush. Next week, one crew will start on the west side of Beloit flushing south of Liberty Avenue and another will work on the east side of Beloit south of White Avenue. Weekly updates will be posted to the City of Beloit Public Works Facebook page notifying residents which areas will be impacted during that week. Following the hydrant flushing, residents should open their cold water faucets during evening hours until the water runs clear before using it. Water is safe to drink during this time period.
