According to a press release from State Representative Don Vruwink, he will be among the first five people inducted into the Milton School District’s Wall of Honor. Other inductees at this time include Mabel Maxson, Wally & Faye Schilberg, Bill Shadel, and Doug Welch.
After retiring from teaching, Vruwink served on the City Council and School Board. He served as director of the city parks and recreation department; was a substitute teacher for several school districts; and an umpire for baseball and softball games. When former students encouraged him to run for a seat in the Legislature, he ran and won. He is now serving his third term.
The Wall of Honor recognizes former students, alumni, staff, and community members who have distinguished themselves through academic, artistic, or athletic achievements, or by contributions to their profession.
The induction ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 13 in the high school’s performing arts center, followed by a reception in the event commons. A recognition ceremony will be held at half-time of the October 14 football game at Anderson Field.
