Last night at the Rock County Board of Supervisors meeting, the Race to Equity report was given. One of the topics of discussion within the report included how black mothers are more likely to have a baby with a low birth weight of about 5 pounds and 8 ounces or less, compared to white and Latina mothers in Rock County. Low birth weight can contribute to negative health impacts, including infant mortality within the first year of the baby’s life. Low birth weight is not caused by biological factors associated with race, but instead by racially-related experiences.
