Palmyra Public Safety Responds to 2nd Offense OWI with Child in Vehicle

According to an update from Palmyra Public Safety, on April 30 at about 8:30 p.m. a citizen called 911 to report a possible intoxicated driver. Officers located the driver, who was arrested for 2nd Offense OWI with a minor child and bail jumping. A young child was in a booster seat in the rear of the vehicle, and the driver was on bond for an unrelated domestic abuse incident. The driver was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Jail. The child was placed in protective custody and released to a responsible adult in accordance with the Jefferson County Human Services Child in Crisis protocol. Palmyra Public Safety has seen an increase in intoxicated driving with children in the vehicle, and they are warning that this creates extreme dangers and requires significant resources to resolve safely.
