One Hospitalized After AMTRAK Train Hits Car In Jefferson County

According to a statement from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, a train collided with a car in Ixonia yesterday, sending one person to the hospital. The incident happened just after 1:30 PM on County Highway F near Marietta Avenue. An eastbound AMTRAK train hit the vehicle that was heading southbound after the vehicle became stuck trying to cross the tracks with the guards down. The driver was taken to the hospital, and there was no word on their condition. The Ixonia Fire and EMS Department assisted Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies on this call. The train name wasn't confirmed, but it was possibly AMTRAK's Empire Builder, which travels from Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington to Chicago and passes through Jefferson County, making its closest stop in the area in Columbus, which is the final eastbound stop before Chicago Union Station, according to the AMTRAK route map.
