At the Tuesday evening Jefferson County Board meeting, one of the key topics of discussion was the opioid epidemic and its impact on Jefferson County. The board voted to enter into a settlement of $2,959,875.98 with many pharmaceutical companies that disperse the drug in an attempt to mitigate the damage done by the opioid epidemic and for further opioid abatement. The Jefferson County Board was briefed in closed session on November 9 on the status of the settlement agreement, and previously in October of 2017, the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution that authorized the County Administrator to execute the necessary documents to proceed with a lawsuit on behalf of Jefferson County.
