At this week’s Jefferson County Board of Supervisors meeting, a primary topic of conversation was the Jefferson County Courthouse, Sheriff’s Office, and Jail project. 19 bids have been issued in connection to this project; and 18 of those bids were approved. The last remaining bid, for Excavation and Site Utilities, has a due date of September 1.
The total cost for the Courthouse, Sheriff and Jail Improvements Project is expected
to be up to $49,959,475. This project will be funded by a combination of 2021A General Obligation Bonds in the amount of $8 million, 2022A General Obligation Bonds in the amount of $28 million, American Rescue Plan Act funding of $8,355,000, carryover funds designated by the Board of Supervisors on March 8, 2022 in the amount of $2,635,000, and working capital fund balance in the amount of $2,969,475.
The County Board has appropriated $10,635,000 in the 2022 budget for this project, with the remainder of the project costs to be appropriated in the 2023 budget. No budget adjustment is necessary.
