Jefferson County Board of Supervisord Approves Grant Submission to Wisconsin DNR

Last night at the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors meeting, they approved the submission of a grant application to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for the Knowles Nelson Stewardship Grant Program, the Federal Recreational Trails Program, and the Land Water Conservation Fund. The Jefferson County Parks Department is seeking these funds to complete a recreation trail for hiking, biking and cross-country skiing on the interurban trail. The grants could fund up to $249,999 for project design, engineering, and construction.

The proposed trail is 10.96 miles in length and is located between the City of Watertown, Wisconsin, and the City of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. This off-road paved trail connection will be built on the former Interurban Rail Line that connects the City of Watertown to the City of Oconomowoc. The project is located primarily in Jefferson County (10 miles) and a portion in Waukesha County (1 mile). The City of Watertown and the City of Oconomowoc are the project boundaries.
