According to an update from the City of Janesville, Water Utility has received reports of a phone scam involving individuals impersonating Utility staff in an attempt to steal personal information. The scammers are falsifying their caller ID, and once the phone has been answered, the caller falsely claims that Utility is attempting to process a discount or refund, and needs personal banking information from the customer. The city of Janesville is reminding residents that Utility does not call customers to acquire personal information over the phone to process discounts or refunds.
