Janesville Police Respond to Sunday Garage Fire

According to a press release from the Janesville Fire Department, yesterday they were dissipated to a residence on Russel Rd. shortly after 8:40 p.m. First arriving crews found heavy fire on the exterior of the house that was spreading to the interior of the attached garage, as well as the eaves and attic space above the garage and living area of the home. Firefighters deployed multiple attack lines to extinguish the fire, which was quickly brought under control and extinguished. The occupants of the home were two adults and one child, and they were able to escape unharmed. Janesville fire crews were on scene for over two hours, and no injuries were reported. It appears the cause of the fire was unintentional and related to the disposal of ashes from a fireplace and into a garbage can that was close to an exterior wall of the home. Damage due to the fire was extensive, which included two vehicles inside the garage.
