Janesville Police Department Release Additional Information Regarding Plainfield Ave. Shooting

The City of Janesville Police Department held a press conference earlier today regarding last night’s shooting on Plainfield Ave.

The victim, who was pronounced deceased yesterday as a result of the gunshot wound, was a 30 year old male from Janesville. The suspect was identified as 23 year old Evansville resident Kevin Luther Todd. He has been charged with first degree intentional homicide, and three counts of first degree recklessly endangering safety while armed.

This is the first homicide incident to occur in Janesville for 2022. The last homicide in the city was in May of 2021. The incident was called in at about 4:30 p.m. and information was given regarding the suspect. After the shooting, Todd had left the scene on foot, but a description of his vehicle was given. An Orfordville Police officer and Rock County Sheriff officers located Todd traveling in his vehicle on Highway 213 and Highway 11, where a short pursuit was initiated. He pulled over, and reported that he waited to pull over due to the hills in the area and his concern for the law enforcement officer's safety. He then complied with law enforcement. Todd was taken into custody about 45 minutes after the initial call, and is being held at the Rock County Jail.

Police said that the two individuals were known to each other, and Todd shot the victim in the back. The two were co-workers who had worked together for about one week, and Todd reported that the victim had been bullying him. More information on this story will be given if it becomes available.
