According to a press release from the Janesville Police Department, this morning at about 3:20 a.m. Janesville officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Starling Ln. for a disturbance. Dispatch advised officers there was a male subject, later identified as 19 year old Daequan I. Hanna, who was physically fighting with a female and was trying to run people over with his vehicle. Also, while officers were on their way, another neighbor called and reported a gunshot in the area of the disturbance. Officers arrived and had contact with a female who had visible injuries to her face consistent with being physically assaulted. During the investigation, there was a spent shell casing found on scene and a vehicle that had a bullet hole in it. After speaking to all involved, it was discovered Daequan was physically punching the female outside near the street. Two neighbors intervened to stop the assault and Daequan got into a vehicle. He then began trying to run over the female victim and two neighbors. One of the victim neighbors shot their handgun at the car in self-defense of themselves and the other two individuals on scene. No one was injured from the gunshot or the vehicle. Daequan is currently being held at the Rock County Jail pending his initial appearance for charges of battery/domestic violence, three counts of first degree recklessly endangering safety, and disorderly conduct/domestic violence.
