According to an update from the Janesville Fire Department, Firefighter and Paramedic Ben Shelby has been presented the Mighty Oak Award by City Manager, Mark Frietag. This award is given twice a year to an individual that has strong organizational values, assists the department in many ways, embraces change, and is actively involved in the community. Shelby has been part of the Janesville Fire Department since 2010, and he also serves as a Preceptor for paramedic students. As of 2017, Shelby also repairs dive equipment in the department.
