At this week’s Janesville City Council meeting, they approved the purchase of a new fire apparatus to replace an older apparatus. The anticipated life expectancy of a fire engine is 15 years. Fire Department vehicles scheduled for replacement are included in a capital projects budget and, as approved, are funded through the issuance of general obligation promissory notes. The apparatus will be purchased in 2023. Due to cost increases and production delays, the Fire Department will order the apparatus in 2022 to reduce the impact of these cost increases and ensure delivery in early 2024.
