A woman was killed in Rock County over the weekend when her vehicle slammed into a semi.
It happened at Wisconsin 81 and County Road K around 7:45 Sunday morning. Investigators said the woman was in her sedan at the intersection when she failed to yield for the right of way and a 2016 Peterbilt semi carrying milk tried to avoid the vehicle but could not and slammed into the sedan. The crash caused the truck to drop its load of milk and the semi hit a tree, while the sedan came to a rest in a field.
The woman in the sedan, a 39-year-old from Hartford, was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the driver of the semi, a 21-year-old male from Elkhorn, was transported to Mercyhealth Janesville and later released.
Witnesses reported it was very difficult to see at that time of morning, and weather conditions may have also played a role in the crash. One lane of 81 was opened for about two and half hours, while the entire road was closed for around three and half hours to remove the debris and wreckage.
The Wisconsin State Patrol will inspect the semi and tanker, but no charges are anticipated.
