On Tuesday night, the Fort Atkinson City Council held a meeting, The meeting began with community comments, but ran into technical difficulties as the first citizen began to speak. The speaker, and half the Council, were ejected from the online meeting, stalling the meeting for a few minutes while everyone found their way back. Once the Council recovered from the interruption, it was business as usual.
The meeting proceeded through a few ordinance readings, and into the City Manager’s report. City Manager Rebecca LeMire briefly mentioned the large warehouse fire last week, noting Fire Chief Rausch would give a more in depth update later. She went on to describe attending a welcome breakfast for new teachers, where sponsors donated school supplies for the year. LeMire also gave a brief COVID-19 update, stating that Jefferson County has had a high transmission rate for the virus. As a result of this, Fort Atkinson will once again require masks to be worn by all citizens indoors at city facilities, starting August 19.
The meeting came to a close after sorting through some new business. One of the main items was the selection of a Design Engineer for the 2022 CDBG Water Main Replacement Project. The council decided to accept the bid from Ruekert-Mielke for $56,230. This project is expected to begin in the spring, and is paid for by CBDG grant money. The final items were the approval of survey maps for Kwik Trip and True Storage, as well as the approval of a development agreement between the City of Fort Atkinson and True Storage for the creation of self-serve storage units.
