According to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, yesterday at about 9:50 a.m. a crash occurred on I-39 northbound at mile marker 131 in Dane County near DeForest. The crash involved one fatality of a 59 year old Elkhorn man, and one injury of a 35 year old male from Warren, MI.
A semi unit (driven by the 25 year old Warren, MI male) was traveling northbound on I-39 when it came upon slower traffic. The semi unit rear-ended a passenger car (driven by the 59 year old Elkhorn male) that was also traveling northbound. The semi unit then went to the left and crossed the northbound lanes of I-39 before crashing through the cement median barrier. The semi unit rolled over and came to rest blocking all the southbound lanes of I-39. The passenger car came to rest in the northbound lanes. Several other vehicles suffered damage from hitting debris. Names of the individuals involved are not yet released, and more information will be given as it becomes available.
