At last night's Eagle Town Board meeting, the board discussed numerous items and updates in the community over their two and half hour meeting.
The board approved the new census wards for the town, although there is only one voting location in the town, so clerk Lynn Pepper called the wards "meaningless"
"It's just something we have to do every 10 years" she said.
There will be a new cemetery sign installed on Saturday morning at 10 AM. The sign should last another century.
The Sheriff's Department said that there were no major incidents to report, but there has been an uptick in speeding in Southwestern Waukesha County, particularly along County roads E and LL. The sheriff's deputy said a "number" of citations had been issued.
The Eagle library was at 73% revenue and 68% expenses, and is offering a program being held later to help and give advice about horses and winter. It will be on November 18 at 7:00 at the Municipal Building. The library has received funds from Town of Eagle and Village of Eagle, along with 50% from the lake shore contract. They also held a Flu and COVID clinic last month and it was well attended. The library is looking to see if they can host another one.
The lake patrol is requesting a $1000 increase in wages and reported 37 citation and 79 warnings this season. Vessels in distress went up 6 to 26, while complaints went down 7 to 22. The harvester in Eagle Springs Lake has been pulled from the lake and will undergo heavy maintenance during the offseason. Other equipment has been winterized and the buoys have been pulled out of the water.
A special election is coming up in Eagle. This special election will give residents an opportunity to aid in the decision to spread the tax base as a vote rather than borrow money. Eagle residents are averaging $139-$278 yearly for a $500,000 home, according to the report. The Town said they are ,ore interested in saving interest money. The tax rate for 2021 is $2.40, up from $1.79 last year. By 2025, without borrowing, it’ll come down to $2. Early voting is scheduled for October 24. Permanent absentee voters will or already have received mail in ballots.
The board decided to table a bid for a new fee structure for a local company, as they needed more information. The fees are currently extremely low and increases get them back on track. A one week deadline was given to Pepper.
The new Hidden Knolls subdivision has 100% of the land purchased, and has 80% of the homes built. A Letter of Credit was returned provided the developer ensure completion of the prairie and contingent on payment of all invoices. There is a knoll that is listed under Waukesha Land Conservancy in that area, and there are plans for additional prairie restoration. It was approved.
The Town's Yard Waste Pickup saw garbage dumpsters filled up within hours. The Town also followed the village's lead, approving $6275 towards a local security provider to upgrade the Municipal Building. The Town applied for a DNR grant that goes by tonnage for recycling. They are expected to receive $8000 in Summer 2022.
The rec Department says they will receive a grant for up to $1000 and no less than $500 from the League of Wisconsin Municipalities. There is no application necessary
Finally, the construction costs of Little Prairie Road were split with Palmyra, meaning the Town spent only $17,000 for a $63,000 project as there was a 70% payback. The whole road was done for just over $20,000.
