Delavan Police Respond to Friday Shots Fired Incident

According to an update from the Delavan Police Department, on Friday afternoon officers responded to restaurant at 1265 Geneva St. in Delavan for a report of a shot fired from a long gun by a male subject. Upon Officer arrival, Officer Sulzer made contact with two elderly male subjects in the parking lot on the south side of the restaurant. One subject was seated in the driver seat of a vehicle, the other was standing outside the same vehicle, holding a candelabra, speaking with the driver. The subjects were asked if they had heard a gunshot, and the male subject who was outside the vehicle (later identified as Lester Bach) stated that they had just fired an air rifle.


In speaking with Bach, he further he stated that he had purchased the air rifle on his way to Wisconsin from Illinois. Bach stated that he had been showing his friend (later identified as Louis Ambrosia) the rifle and Ambrosia dry fired the rifle (unloaded rifle) which emitted a sound from the air pressure created by air rifles. Officer Sulzer was shown the rifle which was cased, lying in the back seat of Bach's vehicle. The rifle was inspected and verified to be an air rifle.


Bach stated that they had then entered the location at 1265 Geneva St. with the rifle and were immediately asked to leave. Bach stated he complied, exited the building, cased the rifle, and placed it in his vehicle.


In speaking with both subjects they did not realize the disturbance the incident created. Both subjects were spoken to about the appropriate place and time to be showing a friend their newly purchased rifle. Both subjects stated they understood that based on the place and current events that this was not appropriate. Both subjects were warned for their disturbance and were released from the incident.
