UPDATE The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said in a press release just before 11 AM that I-94 WB had reopened.
UPDATE 8/18 Jefferson County authorities have provided a tragic update to this story. According to a press release from the Sheriff’s office, just before 4 AM this morning, authorities were dispatched to a vehicle crash at Mile Marker 262 on I-94 Westbound. Early indications are that a trailer traveling westbound lost control and hit a guardrail. A second vehicle struck the trailer, and then a semi entered the area, striking the trailer and guardrail. Multiple fatalities have been confirmed. I-94 Westbound is closed from Johnson Creek to Lake Mills and is not anticipated to reopen until 11 AM. The incident is still under investigation and no other information is immediately being provided. Many local agencies are on scene.
According to multiple sources, a traffic crash is causing major delays in Johnson Creek near Wisconsin 26. The Westbound lanes are closed. Motorists can take 26 to 18 from south to west and then can access 94 again via 89 NB. More information when it is provided.
