COVID Cases "Rising Rapidly" In Jefferson County

The Jefferson County Health Department is reporting a “rapid rise” in new COVID-19 cases. The county is averaging about 7 new cases a day per 100,000, which is approximately 7 times more than the lowest number of cases which was reported just last week. The total number of cases per 100,000 is 47 over a 14-day period. Most of the new cases appear to be the Delta Variant which is up to 70 percent more infectious and has become the dominant strain. Residents are being strongly encouraged to wear masks indoors. It is also recommended that those who are unvaccinated receive accurate, reliable and factual information on the benefits of the vaccine. You are asked to call 211 with any questions.
