According to an update from the City of Janesville, the Bellrichard Bridge will remain closed through approximately July 29 for bridge deck maintenance work. During this time, South Crosby Avenue and South Willard Avenue will remain closed between Rockport Road and West State Street. On Sunday, July 10, the City responded to a report that vandals emptied two liquid containers that the maintenance project contractor had stored onsite. The contractor continues to work to clean up the spill, and as a result, the project work will continue beyond the initially scheduled completion date. The City will post a detour for through traffic utilizing Rockport Road, Center Avenue, and West State Street. Through traffic must follow the detour. No traffic will be allowed on the bridge at any time. Rockport Park and the ramps to Afton Road will remain accessible from Rockport Road. Residents will have access to their homes throughout the closure.
The maintenance work includes:
The repair of the concrete parapet wall.
The filling cracks on the bridge deck.
The placement of a thin polymer overlay across the entire surface of the bridge deck.
