According to an update from the City of Janesville, Bird City Wisconsin has recognized the City for sustaining flight as a Bird City community for the tenth straight year.
This designation recognizes communities that work in tandem toward Bird City Wisconsin's mission of enhancing the environment for birds, educating the public about human-bird interactions, and highlighting the contributions birds make to a healthy community. To acquire the Bird City status, the organization requires a community to meet the program's six criteria, which include:
Habitat creation and protection
Community forest management
Limiting threats to birds
Public education
Energy and sustainability
Official recognition of World Migratory Bird Day
