According to an update from the City of Delavan, the Common Council recently adopted changes to the City’s burning ordinance, and open burning is no longer allowed with the exception of small recreational campfires. A “campfire” is a small fire that burns clean wood, intended for recreation or cooking. Fires must be attended by a competent person until extinguished and cold. Open fires must have a noncombustible ring and be at least 25 feet from the nearest building not on the same property and at least 15 feet from any lot line. Portable fire pits or fireplaces may not be used on a balcony or under an overhang. Campfires are allowed to be burned between the hours of 9 a.m. and midnight.
