According to a press release from the City of Beloit, they will be using federal funds to purchase a hybrid electric-diesel bus through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in support of the City’s environmental, economic, and social sustainability framework. Beloit Transit will purchase the hybrid bus with a Surface Transportation Program-Urban grant through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The grant will cover 80% of the cost of the bus ($629,960) with 20% ($157,490) coming from the city’s Capital Improvement budget. The grant was applied for through the Stateline Area Transportation Study (SLATS).
The hybrid bus will replace an aging diesel bus in the Beloit Transit fleet and will help
reduce carbon emissions in the community. The manufacturing lead time for buses is
approximately 12-18 months, so it is expected the bus will be placed into service in the
second half of 2023. This is the first hybrid bus purchased by Beloit Transit.
