According to an update from the Burlington Public Library, today floor tiles containing asbestos will be removed from the library basement. This work is required in advance of the Community Development Block Grant funded Americans with Disabilities Act. There should be no health hazard to library staff or members of the public. The asbestos-laden floor tiles will be removed in such a way that they should not be broken. The contractors doing the work will use the basement entrance off of Pine St. and will establish a negative air pressure enclosure to keep air from circulating to the rest of the library. Additionally, the basement does not share an air circulation system with the upper floors of the library.
