According to an update from the Brodhead Police Department, police are investigating catalytic converter thefts which occurred in the overnight hours of Thursday, April 28. Brodhead Police started receiving the theft complaints around 9 a.m. on Friday, April 29, in the 1000 blocks of W. 2nd Ave. and E. 3rd Ave. Catalytic converters are hot targets for some thieves because they contain rare metals like palladium and rhodium. Converter thefts can occur within a minute or less. The cost to the victim can range between $1-2 thousand to repair or replace the catalytic converter.
