After some discussion which included public pushback against the use of masks, the Big Foot Union Board of Education voted 4-1 in accordance with its current reopening plan for masks to continue to be optional. The BOE did say they would examine if any changes needed to be made, and an argument was made that masks were the reason that the schools in the district were able to remain open. The mask ruling could be revised if the data trends one way or another, as one member said they “intend to be fluid and reactive” if necessary. It was also discussed that the local Illinois schools will have been in session for two weeks before Big Foot starts and that is a key data point for the board.
