According to a press release from the City of Beloit, Well #9 will return to service on Monday, August 2 following the radium mitigation project on the well, which has been out of service since October 2019. Rehabilitation work of the well included removing the buildup of scaling on the walls of the well that was concentrating the naturally occurring radium, and six radium tests were conducted over the course of a 24-hour pump test. The city has permission to return the well to service from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and all water entering the distribution system meets all State and Federal Safe Drinking Water Standards. Radium levels will be monitored on at least a quarterly basis to ensure compliance with Safe Drinking Water Standards.
