Watertown Fire Department Responds to Wednesday House Fire

According to an update from the City of Watertown, the fire department was dispatched to a call at a home with smoke and fire showing from the outside on Ruth St. on Wednesday at about 11:50 a.m. The fire was called in by a neighbor of the residence, and the fire department requested help from neighboring departments. Once on scene, units found the single family residence with smoke and fire coming from the first floor of the house. The arriving units made entry into the house to knock down the fire and conducted a search of the home, which was found empty. The fire was contained to the room of origin. Damage to the house is estimated to be over $20 thousand, and a displaced occupant is being assisted by the Red Cross. No injuries were reported for any of the firefighters. The fire department is reminding the public of the importance of having working smoke detectors, as there were no working smoke detectors present in this house at the time of the fire. The Watertown Fire Department was assisted by Ixonia, Waterloo, Johnson Creek, CLR, Lebanon, and Lake Mills EMS.
