Troopers In Jefferson County Shooting Cleared Of Wrongdoing
The troopers involved in an officer-involved shooting in early December have been cleared of any wrongdoing. The Jefferson County District Attorney says that the three officers acted in self-defense in the incident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 26 and US 12 after a pursuit. The three troopers have been on administrative leave. Officers tried to pull over 23-year old Joseph Crawford-Lamal, who, after dropping off passengers, led police on a chase. Authorities reported he was firing shots at officers, and, after hitting stop sticks, Crawford-Lamal got out of his vehicle and attempted to carjack another vehicle. That’s when three State Troopers fired their weapons, killing the suspect. The District Attorney Monica Hall said that the officers’ actions were justified on the basis of self-defense.
