Three Miraculously Escape Whitewater Plane Crash
The big story of the weekend is the news that no one was seriously hurt when a plane crashed into the Kettle Moraine State Forest in Whitewater. According to the Whitewater Fire Department, just after 9:15 Saturday night, officials were dispatched to the area of HiLo Road for a report from Milwaukee Air Traffic Control that a plane had disappeared from radar. The pilot of the plane was able to call 911, and the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office was able to get a more accurate location based on that call. The crash was more located near the Ice Age Trail on County P, and crews needed about 45 minutes to locate the crash site. The plane was travelling from Sheboygan to Burlington when it suffered some sort of problem, deployed parachutes, and crash landed into the top of the tree line about 75 feet off the ground. Three people were on board the plane and it took around five hours to free them, no injuries were thankfully reported. Fire crews from Lagrange, Janesville, Beloit, Elkhorn and Madison’s Heavy Urban Rescue Team assisted. The FAA was on scene on Sunday investigating. Pictures from the incident are on the Whitewater FD Facebook page.
