Suspect Names Released in Jefferson County Officer Involved Shooting

The man shot and killed by troopers in the December 9th incident in Jefferson County has been identified. The WI DoJ Division of Criminal Investigation says 23-year-old Joseph Crawford has been identified as the suspect that stopped briefly to let a passenger, 22-year-old Desmond Watkins, out of the vehicle during an attempted traffic stop. Watkins was later arrested. Crawford then fled the scene and was pursued by Wi State Patrol vehicles, at the same time firing shots at police. The vehicle was going southbound on 26 when stop sticks were deployed, and Crawford ran over them. The vehicle came to a stop in the median near Highway 26 and Highway 12 in Fort Atkinson. Crawford exited the vehicle with a handgun and attempted to a carjack a civilian, This is when police shot Crawford. Despite efforts to save his life, Crawford died at the scene. No other individuals were harmed.
