Remaining Williams Bay Observatory Land Will Be Sold
The remaining land in Williams Bay owned by the University of Chicago will be sold, one way or another. The Lake Geneva Regional News reports that the 8.72 lakefront acres is under consideration for what happens next. The debate is whether the land will be turned into three residential lots with one house on each lot, or something else, so long as it maintains its public and institutional zoning designation. A public hearing was held Wednesday night at Williams Bay High School, and several dozen people attended, with about 12 speaking during the public comments period. A member from the University says they have always intended to sell the land, and despite all the offers, the university is committed to selling it. A pedestrian footpath along the lakefront is expected to remain.
