Near the end of the WUSD School Board meeting, a proposal was approved by the board to adopt a new language arts curriculum for Whitewater Middle School. The curriculum is called Into Literature from Houghton Mifflin. The decision was made after testing out two other language arts curricula over the last year, with the teachers involved preferring Into Literature. It was also brought to the Board’s attention that if this request were denied, the teachers would have to go back to using an 11-year-old curriculum. The new curriculum will cost the district approximately $33,000 for two years-worth of material. While the request was just approved, teachers are already preparing their new lessons with sample materials.
